Medical service with a human, scientific, and responsible approach
I focus on providing person-centered care, supported by scientific evidence and responsible use of resources. I integrate approaches such as Patient Blood Management (PBM) and healthcare services management to ensure the best possible care.
On the appropriate management of blood and blood products
Patient Blood Management (PBM) is a fundamental part of medical practice that aims to reduce unnecessary use of transfusions and improve patient safety. To apply it correctly, we use sound Healthcare Services Management that ensures trained personnel, adequate resources, and efficient processes.
Why is appropriate blood management necessary?
Appropriate blood management is essential because:
- It optimizes clinical outcomes by preventing anemia and reducing blood loss
- Minimizes avoidable transfusions and their associated complications
- Decreases infections and adverse reactions
- Shortens hospital stays
Reduces healthcare costs - Respects the patient’s personal preferences
The final sentence confirms that these practices are based on scientific evidence and World Health Organization recommendations.
Patient-Centered Care
PBM respects the patient’s decision regarding transfusions, providing alternatives when possible and ensuring that they receive clear information to make informed decisions, always with a focus on their beliefs, values, and well-being.
Proper Blood Management in Our Patients
Patient Blood Management (PBM) is ideally applied in three key stages of the clinical process: before, during, and after a medical intervention, especially in surgical procedures.
Preoperative Assessment and Planning (Pillar I)
Conditions such as anemia are identified and corrected before the procedure, with the goal of optimizing the patient's blood and reducing the need for transfusions.
Intraoperative Management (Pillar II):
During surgery or medical procedures, techniques are applied to minimize blood loss and improve its preservation, as well as optimize coagulation, ensuring the patient's stability.
Postoperative Management (Pillar III)
After the procedure, strategies are continued to promote the patient's hematological recovery by leveraging and optimizing physiological tolerance to anemia and avoiding unnecessary transfusions.
Who Benefits from Patient Blood Management (PBM)?
PBM is aimed at anyone who may face significant blood loss, especially in complex surgical or medical contexts. Its benefits extend to:
🔹 Surgical Patients: Especially those undergoing procedures with a high risk of bleeding (cardiac, orthopedic, gynecological surgeries, among others).
🔹 Anemic Patients: Even before surgery or as part of their medical treatment, helping to improve their overall health status.
🔹 Patients Who Reject Transfusions: Due to religious beliefs (such as Jehovah’s Witnesses) or personal reasons, PBM provides safe and effective alternatives.
🔹 Chronic Patients: Such as those with oncological, renal, or hematological diseases, who require careful management of their hemoglobin levels.
🔹 Healthcare Systems: As PBM improves clinical outcomes, reduces complications, lowers hospital costs, and optimizes resource use, such as blood transfusions.
